Palestine – Egypt rejects claims that it gassed Gaza tunnels

An Egyptian intelligence official on Thursday denied allegations leveled by Hamas that Egypt pumped gas into a cross-border tunnel used to smuggle goods into the Gaza Strip, killing four Palestinians.

Egypt has been under pressure to shut down the hundreds of tunnels that are a key economic lifeline for the blockaded Palestinian territory but which are also used to bring in weapons for the Islamic militant group.

The intelligence official confirmed that Egyptian security forces destroyed the entrances to several tunnels this week, but said that no gas was used in the operations. He said that Egypt routinely blows up the mouths to the tunnels to seal them off, and that the blast and an ensuing fire could quickly use up all the oxygen in the confined space, causing people caught inside to suffocate.

Egypt’s denial comes a day after Hamas accused Egyptian forces of killing four Palestinians by pumping gas into a smuggling tunnel. The Hamas Interior Ministry said in a statement late Wednesday that the gas used to try to clear the tunnel was poisonous. It said six people were also injured.

It was not immediately clear what evidence Hamas was basing its allegations on.

Mohammed al-Osh, the medical director of the Abu Yusef al-Najar hospital in the Gaza border town of Rafah where some of the dead and injured were taken, could not confirm those killed had inhaled poison gas. He said the hospital did not have the equipment or specialists needed to conduct the necessary tests on lungs and clothing.

Israel and Egypt have kept Gaza’s official border crossings closed since Hamas seized control of the coastal strip in 2007 from forces loyal to Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who now only governs in the West Bank.

The United States and Israel have been pushing Egypt to do more to try to close the tunnels, which provide Hamas with a lifeline helping it to stay in power in Gaza. Weapons and other contraband regularly move through the tunnels.

More dickbaggery by the useless Egypt.

Israhell – Israeli man jailed for ‘holy semen’ sexual abuse

An Israeli man has been imprisoned for 10 years for tricking women into sexual acts by claiming his semen was holy and had healing powers.

Nissim Aharon, a former employee at the Israeli defence ministry, was convicted of rape, sodomy, indecent acts and aggravated fraudulent acquisition.

Women paid him large sums of money, believing he was a holy rabbi who could heal body and soul, the court said.

Judges called his actions “monstrous”, exploiting “women young and old”.

The sentence was the result of a plea bargain, and was handed down at Petah Tikvah district court.

Under it, Aharon will also have to pay 100,000 Israeli shekels ($26,866) to each of five women who filed the complaint against him.

What. The. Fuck.

Palestine – Maltese woman shot during Palestine protests

A 28-year-old Maltese woman, Bianca Zammit, had a very close brush with death yesterday morning during a pro-Palestinian demonstration, when she was shot in the left thigh by Israeli forces near the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza.

Ms Zammit was shot while filming the demonstration at a distance of roughly 100 meters from a fence separating the Palestinian territory from Israel, where Israeli soldiers were positioned.

Speaking to The Malta Independent on Sunday yesterday evening, Ms Zammit said she had been “really lucky” in that the bullet had entered the flesh of her thigh and had not struck the bone, which would have resulted in a far worse injury.

As matters stand, doctors have told her she should be able to walk again in a week’s time.

Sounding calm, cool and collected despite what must have been quite an ordeal, Ms Zammit said yesterday’s experience had not deterred her in the slightest and that she would remain in Palestine to continue peacefully demonstrating in support of the rights of the Palestinian people.

While Ms Zammit should be back on her feet again by next week, one of her companions was not so lucky. Hind Al Akra, 22, was shot in the stomach and at the time of speaking to Ms Zammit he was still undergoing emergency surgery and his condition was said to be serious. Another demonstrator, Nidal Al Naji, 18, was shot in the right thigh.

“It was totally amazing,” Ms Zammit recounts. “The demonstration was 100 per cent peaceful. We were simply walking with Palestinian flags on Palestinian land, the same as is done every two to three days here.

World – Israel fourth least liked country in the world. Pakistan, Iran and NK worse

23/04/2010

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3878518,00.htm

Only Iran, North Korea, and Pakistan are viewed in a more negative light than Israel, according to a poll conducted in 28 countries and published Tuesday by the BBC.

The poll shows that just 19% of the 29,000 respondents questioned view Israel positively versus 50% who perceive the country in a negative light. Together with Israel at the bottom of the list are Iran (15% positive, 56% negative), Pakistan (16% positive, 51% negative), and North Korea (17% positive, 48% negative).

The poll also showed that world perceptions of the US are improving with 46% of respondents viewing the country favorably and 34% viewing the country negatively. Only two countries saw a decrease in the perception of the world’s number one superpower – Turkey and India.

I find it quite ironic that, if you read more, Germany is the most favoured. Disturbing, but amusing. Anyway, good news, hopefully the pro-Zionist organisations find out that hardly anybody supports their cause of funding them.

Sense.
